Professional Poker Player Vanessa Rousso has announced the Memorial Ceremony and Inaugural Charity Poker Tournament honoring her former husband, poker great Chad Brown. This event will take place July 13th, 2014 at Binion’s Gambling Hall & Hotel, located at 128 Fremont Street in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Chad Brown was born in the Bronx on August 13, 1961. During his lifetime, he achieved fame as a television personality and top professional poker player—earning over $3.5 million during his career on the poker circuit. Within the poker community, Chad was widely regarded as ‘the nicest guy in the game’—universally respected for his character, good nature, and affable personality.

In an unprecedented move, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) honored Chad this summer with the first ever honorary WSOP Championship Bracelet. Shortly thereafter, on July 2nd, 2014, Chad lost his battle with sarcoma surrounded by family and friends in New York City.

Rousso stated, “This annual event will be a celebration of Chad’s life. Chad touched so many so deeply and this is a way to keep his memory alive.” Rousso added, “Also, I am proud to announce that for this year, PokerStars, Chad’s poker sponsor has generously offered to partner with us.”

Sue Hammett, director of corporate giving for PokerStars stated, “PokerStars was proud to have Chad Brown on our team. We are devastated and mourn the passing of our dear friend Chad Brown. For this year’s inaugural Chad Brown Poker Tournament, PokerStars is pleased to announce and donate the following to this worthy charitable event. The first place winner of Chad’s tournament will receive a Main Event Seat at the next PokerStars Caribbean Adventure event. The second place winner will receive a main event seat including hotel for 5 nights at the Montreal Poker Festival which will take place August 22nd thru September 4th of this year.”

Sue went on, “Furthermore, PokerStars will match all funds raised for the charity from the Tournament. All of us here at PokerStars are honored to do this in Chad’s name”

The Chad Brown Memorial Charity Poker Tournament is partnering nationally with the TJ Martell Charity Foundation with cooperation from Las-Vegas based ‘When Charity Works’.

Tony Martell, founder and chairman of the T.J. Martell Foundation stated, “I am thrilled that we will be working with Vanessa Rousso and the others on this charity event. We look forward to a continuing relationship.”

Laura Heatherly, the CEO of the T.J. Martell Foundation had this to say, “We are proud of this new association with the Chad Brown Memorial Charity Poker Tournament. Presently, besides our other cancer research programs, we are now expanded into sarcoma research. We look forward to the day when we can conquer this devastating disease.”
